Doe Run Elementary: keeping it visible makes it profitable
11/03/2008
Coordinator Kirsten Kormos is passionate about Box Tops, and she discovered early what keeps the Box Tops coming in at her school of 340 students: awareness. Her theme for the year is Soaring High with Box Tops, and she brings that message to school staff and supporters through sight, sound, touch and taste, week in and week out.
At the beginning of the year, she sends school families a packet of information explaining how Box Tops works, with a list of Participating Products, and information about all the different Bonus Box Tops opportunities.
In school, Kirsten runs a monthly contest in every classroom with prizes like ice cream parties and extra recess time. To spur competition, she posts ongoing updates on how many Box Tops each classroom has collected on a big poster near the principal’s office, as well as in regular newsletter updates. She also broadcasts the contest standings in the school’s morning announcements once each week, which keeps everyone excited to push their class into the lead.
Last year her school collected $2,243, and this year’s goal is $3,000. Doe Run is already well on its way, and who knows where they’ll go from here. When you’re soaring high with Box Tops, the sky’s the limit!
