Last night my husband, daughter and I attended the back to school picnic for the 6th graders at her new school. It was great to meet these new families and to see our daughter make new friends. To be honest, I think my daughter was more concerned that I make new friends with the mom's than I was for her to make new friends with the kids!

MIDDLE SCHOOL. Who knew it would creep upon us so SOON?

From what I understand from the Box Tops Community at large (you guys!) - it will be a challenge to get the earnings and support that we had in elementary school. But as I search out for the Coordinator at her new school - to offer to help in any way I can - I go over the Tips Sarah and I reviewed at our latest TIPS & TRICKS webinar in my mind:

  1. Set a Goal. - involve your teachers and administrators, find out where the greatest need is, and determine what you will be working toward
    • By setting a goal, you will be able to keep your school community informed of a tangible item to work toward
  2. Keep the School Community Updated of your progress - keep the lines of communication open, remind families that there are 4 different ways they can participate and earn for your school (Clip, Shop, My Class Essentials & Reading Room). Communicate OFTEN. Send fliers home, hold contests, and remind families of the NEED.
  3. Reach out to the Community - are there any local merchants who can "sponsor" a collection contest or who will shop on behalf of the Marketplace for your school? Maybe a merchant who will "match" any funds you get for a collection period?
  4. Be Creative! Have Fun! - Nobody knows your school better than you do; create fliers that are custom for your community - develop contests for families, host "counting" parties to help you get those little box tops bundled and counted, Shop and encourage others to Shop - the Reading Room and Marketplace are your biggest potential earners!
  5. Learn from others - "like" us on Facebook and stay tuned to what is going on in the day and the life of Box Tops. Use the Box Tops Community and get ideas from the thousands of other passionate Coordinators like you. Did you know as Coordinator for your school, you automatically have a "School Community" page on our website JUST FOR YOU To communicate with other school supporters? Stay plugged in to the Box Tops website www.btfe.com for information being updated frequently.

I think most of these ideas can translate to Middle School - The first step is getting to know the other mom's so I can share my knowledge and passion for Box Tops; and the good news is, after 2 hours at the picnic, our whole family walked away with new friends and a bright outlook for the school year ahead.

I'll keep you posted on our progress and will be looking to many of you for your "Middle School" ideas and successes!

Here in the Upper Midwest, it’s imperative to get the most out of the Summer.  Many of my friends and colleagues go “up north” almost every weekend to get out of the city and enjoy the North Woods.  My family, however, prefers to keep it local and enjoy the most the City has to offer on beautiful summer weekends.  ...

Our team has been having fun travelling the country and meeting our school coordinators.  We kicked off our event in Chicago and have also been to Detroit, Phoenix and Los Angeles.  We have several more cities to visit before we host our National Box Tops University in Minneapolis on June 18....
